Question:

I have a question about Dometic Soft Start and need expert advice on getting the right part. I want to install one on a Dometic model 541915A which I think is part of the Blizzard NXT line. My research suggest the proper kit is 9610004641. Do you offer a kit for the Blizzard NXT or has it been superseded?

Hey Mike!

I found online that the Dometic 9610004641 is the correct plug-and-play soft start kit for your Dometic Blizzard NXT 541915A, but we do not carry that part and it seems to have been discontinued. There is not another kit for the Dometic Blizzard NXT.

I do have a universal SoftStartRV Soft Start for Single Zone Air Conditioner Setup - Qty 1 # SSR54FR that will work with your Blizzard NXT AC unit, but it will have to be spliced in. I've linked the install instructions below. The soft start will conceal neatly under the shroud and greatly reduce the energy your AC unit uses at startup.

What are you looking to address with the soft start? Do you typically connect to shore power or a generator?

Actually, it is powered through a Xantrex XC Pro 3000W inverter/charger powered by two 460 Ah LiFePO4 batteries in parallel. An ATS on the supply side can switch between a 5500W Cummins generator with an AGS system or shore power. The power failure transfer time is about 20 ms for the inverter, but may extend if the compressor is "free wheeling", or running when power is lost. That state seems to cause the highest current spike once power to it resumes from the inverter. Either way, I think installing the Soft Start is a good idea.

@MikeC You're definitely on the right track, then. When you're transferring power from one to the other, the soft start is going to help with the compressor's surge and in turn, make the transition easier on the inverter and prevent an overload or failed restart. I would be 100% comfortable moving forward with that # SSR54FR in your coach.
