Question:
Does a magnet stick to the bottom of your 36 cup camping stainless steel coffee pot? I love the looks and am looking on replacing my enameled stee from GSI. I use it to make tea I know sacrilage on my induction stove again, sacrilage. I happened to see this one and it looks gorgeous, so I am interested ifr I can use it. Many Thanks!

Hey Dr. B!
I went down to the warehouse with a magnet to see if it would stick to the bottom of the GSI Outdoors Camping Coffee Percolator - Stainless Steel - 36 Cups # GSI46MV, and I had no luck. It did stick to the sides of the percolator, but I couldn't get any luck anywhere along the whole bottom. I reached out to the manufacturer for more information, and they confirmed that the base is 18-8 stainless steel (also known as type 304) and it's "theoretically non-magnetic in its annealed state, however it can become slightly magnetic after being bent, stamped, or heavily cold-worked during manufacturing which alters its microscopic crystal structure." Since the percolator's base has already been stamped in manufacturing, this percolator is not going to get any more magnetic than it currently is, so it won't work for your usage. If you were looking to use the magnets to keep it in place while transporting your motorhome or travel trailer, this won't work for that. I'd love to hear how you plan to use this to see if I can find an alternative for you.
What kind of tea do you brew? We actually have an associate here brewing sun tea on our rooftop patio today! Since this is a large pot, is it something you plan on sharing or is it just one large batch for each trip?

Hi! Thank you for your thorough response. This is for use on a stove that heats pots using magnetic fields, called an induction stove. I have been using an enameled steel 36 cup coffee pot to make iced tea for years and was looking to upgrade. I will probably retire the old one and start looking for an enameled coffee pot with filter assembly. I just loved the thought of stainless, so I will head back to the site and just nab a 36 cup pot with filter. Thank you VERY much Most Sincerely Bradley
