Question:
question about converting to LiFEPO4 batteries. i currently have a parallax 081-45RU-000 converter and 7300 series control panelboard in a 2008 winnebago view. the two 6 volt GC15 batteries are starting to fail and i am considering upgrading to LiFe but doubt the converter will provide the proper battery charge. i see that etrailer has recommended some upgrades for similar older RVs. would appreciate hearing from you with any recommendations.

Hey Jon, thanks for all the information! You are 100% correct your older parallax 081-45RU-000 converter and 7300 series control panelboard will not provide the additional voltage necessary to charge lithium batteries without damaging them.
To upgrade your converter to charge LiFEPO4 batteries, I recommend the WFCO Auto-Detect RV Converter Charger item # WF58FR. This is a deck mounted 45 amp power converter that automatically detects what type of battery you're using. This is a great feature if you want to start with replacing the converter because it'll still work with your two 6 volt GC15 batteries.
The WFCO Converter Charger item # WF58FR is a deck mounted style that installs outside of your power center. The converter section that fits inside your cabinet is no longer available. It does require a 20-amp powered 3-prong outlet. It has lithium charging profiles of 13.6v to 14.6v DC to ensure your LiFePO4 batteries charge with the correct voltage.
I saw you were looking at the Progressive Dynamics 4000 Series Mini RV Converter w/ Charge Wizard and AC/DC Distribution Panel item # PD4045KA. These would replace your entire power center and is also lithium compatible. Price wise this would be a great replacement option. However, you will need to remove and rewire your entire power center to install this one. It measures 12-1/4" long x 8-3/4" tall x 7-1/4" deep overall and requires a cutout sized 10-3/4" long x 7-1/4" tall. This would be a better option if you don't have or want to install a dedicated 20-amp powered 3-prong outlet.
How large of a LiFePO4 setup are you looking to add to your Winnebago?
