Question:

Looking for recommendations for the Roadmaster Comfort Ride suspension system for a 2022 Keystone Cougar 316RLS? I have attached a picture of the axle label. Thank you.

Hey Ken, thanks for reaching out, and thanks for including the axle tag. That definitely helps. Based on the 6,000 lb axles on your 2022 Keystone Cougar 316RLS, the Roadmaster Comfort Ride kit you'll need is:

This kit is designed specifically for tandem 6,000 lb axles, so it's a great match for your Cougar.

One of the biggest improvements you'll notice with the Comfort Ride system is how much better it controls the suspension. A buddy and I just installed this kit on my 2023 Grand Design Reflection 295RL. (I also installed RV-De-Fenders at the same time.) The Roadmaster Comfort Ride System included all necessary parts, had detailed instructions, and was relatively easy to install. The most challenging part was drilling the holes for the self-tapping screws to mount the center slipper bracket. I accidentally stripped one of the holes, so I drilled and tapped it a size larger. For some reason, the hardware for the slipper springs were SAE, but then switched to metric for the shocks - not a significant issue, just curious. The trailer rides better, and now requires less maintenance (no wet bolts to lubricate). So far, I’m happy with this upgrade.

@SteveR I thought it was a bit odd on the SAE to metric switch too and in the hardware pack my shock kit came with there were two bolts that had different sized heads than the rest. One other issue with the hardware was that on my spring kit, the end of the box was ripped open and most of the hardware was missing. It was not in a sturdy package.

I just finished installing this same kit on our 2020 Keystone Cougar 315RLS today. This weekend (4th of July) to Lake Tahoe will be the test run for it. It was a big job for one guy to do but it's doable. The printed instructions are not as clear or detailed as I think they should/could be and I had to make a couple of calls to Roadmaster tech support to get clarification on a couple of things. Roadmaster was very helpful and answered within 5 minutes of my call each time.

@JesseM I would say the Roadmaster Comfort Ride System did its job well. I could feel the ride was smoother than with the original Road Armor equalizer, MorRyde Wet Bolts, and the traditional leaf springs and Sumo Springs I had on our 5th wheel prior. I think having those Sumo Springs made the original leaf springs last a bit longer than they probably would have otherwise. I didn't feel any chucking, although I must say, without the wet bolts, it creaks and pops like a traditional trailer suspension with just the NeverFail bushings.

Does this kit come with the needed U-bolts (it looks like it does) or are longer ones needed?

@KenT Yes! The kit does come with new U-bolts that are the appropriate length. U-bolts can't be re-used anyway so you'll definitely want to do away with the old ones and use the new ones that come with the kit.

@KenT, yes, it does, but unfortunately, they do not indicate that on the website, and I purchased two sets, which cost me $33 to return. Had Roadmaster and eTrailer indicated that in the first place, I would not have purchased the two sets of "U" bolts to begin with. But what's $33 when you're spending a couple of thousand on parts to begin with, huh?
