Recommendation for 15K Air Conditioner with Heat Pump for a Ducted RV

Published 06/18/2026

Question:

I have a 2005 Tiffin Phaeton 40qdh motorhome with what looks like 2 Coleman Mach air conditionerstheyre old. There are vents throughout the motorhome in the ceiling so I assume that means its ducted. The units serve as heaters as well. 1 of the units experiencing issues such as stops running and hums. We want to replace this unit for sure with a 15k btu unit. We want it to do cold and heat and have low decibels but not necessarily the same brand. We are up for changing brands and saving some $$$. Any suggestions and info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Jason,

If you're wanting to replace your old Coleman units with a 15K that does heat and cold, I recommend using the GE appliances Deluxe Plus RV AC System w/Heat Pump part # GE75ZR. This is a completely new AC set up, with new rooftop unit, thermostat, air distribution box, and control board. Due to a law passed in 2024 that required a refrigerant change for all ACs made in 2025 so, all AC systems prior to 2024 are no longer compatible with new units. This means that all the parts of your previous AC system must be changed out to work with the new air conditioner's refrigerant.

The GE Appliances Deluxe Plus part # GE75ZR runs easily on 12V DC and 115V AC power and is rated for a 20-amp circuit breaker. The high-performance motor and sound dampening rubber-grommets help reduce noise and vibration in the camper while the unit is running. The integrated heat pump uses heat in the atmosphere to warm the coach and reduces the need to run the furnace, which can extend propane usage between 19-38%. The unit also has an Auto Defrost feature that kicks on periodically in cold temps to keep ice from building up on the heat exchanger and allow the unit to work in temps down to 25 degrees.

What kind of environment are you usually camping in?

We've only had our motorhome for a lil over a yr so warmer months have been our camping so far and will probably be in the future. We will camp in the fall and late winter to spring mainly avoiding extreme cold temps. Does this GE unit come in white? Is it normally in stock? Do yall do installation?

@JasonT The heat pump should be enough to help combat the fall and spring chill no problem. We do offer the GE Deluxe in white part # GE85ZR and it will be coming back into stock soon. We do offer installations in Wentzville, MO where we're located. But, if you're not local you can use our dealer locator to find a shop near you that we've partnered with to do the install for you! I'll link it below; you'll just need to enter your zip code to see shops near you. https://www.etrailer.com/installer/near-me/niagara-falls-ny/rv-service-and-repair

@ClaireH Awesome thanks for the rapid response and the info. We'd prefer the white unit so if you could let me know when it's back in stock I'd appreciate it. We're not local but we might make a trip up there from the Houston area. Any excuse to take a trip lol.

@ClaireH I just happened to look at some of the review and so far theyre not sounding promising for that GE unit. Do you have anymore options besides the GE for my motorhome?
