What Is The Recommended Portable Generator Setup For A Camper Van?

Published 06/17/2026

Question:

I like the smaller Flex Power generator because it is easier to move around, but I’m worried I’ll wish I had more power later. What would you recommend? small camper Van.

Good question, Brad. The Flex Power 2,200-Watt Portable Inverter Generator # FP34FR is the better choice if portability and lighter RV power are your priorities. It weighs 38.9 lbs, has 2,200 starting watts and 1,900 running watts, and works well for charging batteries, running lights, powering small electronics, and handling smaller appliances within its limits.

The main thing to think about is whether you expect to run larger RV loads. If you want a built-in 30 amp RV-ready outlet or more room for bigger appliances, the Flex Power 3,300-Watt # FP54FR gives you 3,300 starting watts and 2,700 running watts.

I’d step up to the bigger one only if your must-run list includes larger appliances like a small ac unit. What are the top things you want to power?
