Deciding Between 2K and 3K Portable Lightweight Generator For Popup Camper

Published 06/17/2026

Question:

I’m trying to decide if I should buy a smaller portable inverter generator or just go straight to the 3300-watt Flex Power. I camp in a 30 amp travel trailer popup and don’t want to regret going too small.

Good question, Mike. For a 30 amp travel trailer, I’d lean toward the Flex Power 3,300-Watt Portable Inverter Generator # FP54FR unless your power needs are really limited to charging, lights, and small electronics.

The smaller Flex Power 2,200-Watt # FP34FR is nice because it weighs 38.9 lbs and is easier to carry, but it is limited to 1,900 running watts. That works well for lighter loads, but you can run out of capacity pretty quickly once you start adding RV appliances.

The # FP54FR gives you 3,300 starting watts and 2,700 running watts, plus it already has the 30 amp RV-ready outlet built in. It is still a portable unit at 46.2 lbs, but that extra wattage and built-in RV connection make it the better long-term fit for a 30 amp camper. Are you hoping to run an A/C at all, or mainly the converter, outlets, and smaller appliances?
