Quiet Portable Generator For Campground Use

Published 06/17/2026

Question:

I want something quiet enough for a campground but still useful when the power goes out at home. Are these Flex Power inverter generators actually quiet?

Hey Steve, both Flex Power models are built around a quieter portable inverter generator design rather than a larger open-frame jobsite-style setup. The # FP34FR 2200i is rated at 52 dB(A) or less at 10 feet, and the # FP54FR 3300i is rated at 53 dB(A) or less at 10 feet.

For camping, tailgating, battery charging, and lighter emergency backup use, these are both very good and quiet generator setups. I’d think of the # FP34FR as the smaller essentials generator for items like a refrigerator, lights, chargers, laptops, and other low-to-moderate draw loads. The # FP54FR gives you more headroom and the 30 amp RV connection, so it is the better fit for camper use.

Just make sure you run either generator outdoors only, away from windows, doors, vents, and enclosed spaces. What are the main things you want to keep powered during an outage?
