i have a 2020 colorado 5 foot bed with leer xr cap. want to put a rack system on top that will support a tent or be able to carry payload like a canoe

You can absolutely set up your 2020 Colorado and Leer XR cap for a rooftop tent or a canoe. How fun!

I recommend the Rhino Rack system part # Y02-490B. This kit includes the tracks, feet, and crossbars, and Rhino Rack has confirmed it will work well for both rooftop tent and cargo carrying applications. It has a 220 pound dynamic load capacity while you're driving and a 600 pound static load capacity when parked. I also looked up the load rating for the Leer XR cap, and it is rated for 600 pounds as well.

The only thing to keep in mind is that installing the tracks on the cap does require drilling into the cap. We don't currently have an option for the Leer XR that avoids drilling, so that's something to plan for. That's pretty standard for cap-mounted rack systems. If you decide to mount a rack directly to the roof of the truck instead, those options typically do not require drilling.
