Can the MORryde Cargo Tray Handle Full Weight when Fully Extended in Ford Transit with Generator?

Question:
Hello MORryde Team, -MORryde RV Cargo Slide Tray - 60 x 48 - 1 Way Slide - 60 Percent Extension - 800 lbs Part Number: MR85FR I am considering purchasing the MR85FR RV Cargo Slide Tray 60 x 48, 800 lb capacity, 60 extension for installation in a **2020 Ford Transit 150 Cargo Van, Low Roof, Short Wheelbase 130 WB**. The approximate cargo dimensions of my vehicle are: * Cargo length behind front seats: approximately 126 * Width between wheel wells: approximately 54.8 * Maximum interior width: approximately 70 * Interior height: approximately 56 My intended application is to mount a SafeAll REV EV charging generator with the following specifications: * Weight: 330 lbs * Dimensions: 37 L x 31 W x 30 H * Fuel Capacity: 10.9 gallons The generator would be permanently mounted to the slide and positioned near the rear edge of the tray to maximize accessibility when the slide is extended. The total estimated weight on the slide, including the generator, mounting system, sound attenuation enclosure, charging equipment, and accessories, is expected to be between 500 and 650 lbs. Before purchasing, I would appreciate clarification on the following: 1. Does the 800 lb capacity rating apply when the slide is fully extended? 2. Is the 800 lb rating based on a uniformly distributed load, or can it safely support a concentrated load such as a permanently mounted generator? 3. Are there any recommendations or restrictions regarding mounting a 330 lb generator near the rear edge of the tray? 4. Is the MR85FR suitable for commercial mobile applications where the equipment remains mounted during vehicle operation? 5. Do you have any recommendations regarding floor reinforcement, backing plates, or mounting methods when installing the slide in a Ford Transit cargo van? 6. Have any customers successfully used the MR85FR to support generators, compressors, welders, or other permanently mounted equipment weighing between 300 and 500 lbs? I want to ensure the slide is appropriate for this application and that the installation is performed safely and within MORrydes design specifications. Thank you for your time and assistance. I look forward to your response.

Hello Alesia,
Thanks for writing in. Wow, that is a really impressive generator setup!
Yes, the MORryde RV Cargo Slide Tray - 60" x 48" - 1-Way Slide - 60% Extension - 800 lbs # MR85FR will work for your application. I checked with Filip at MORryde to make sure I was giving you the most accurate information possible, and he confirmed that the tray maintains its full 800-lb capacity rating even when fully extended.
Typically, a utility tray would be recommended for a generator or battery application because those trays are designed with tie-down points to help secure equipment during travel. Unfortunately, there is not a utility tray available in the size needed for your setup, so the # MR85FR is the best option.
One thing to keep in mind is that the 800-lb rating is based on the load being distributed as evenly as possible across the tray. Your planned installation places a significant portion of the weight toward the rear of the slide, which can create more stress on the tray and slide mechanism than a centered load would.
That said, your generator weighs approximately 330 lbs, which is well below the tray's 800-lb capacity. While positioning the generator near the rear edge is not the ideal loading arrangement, there were no specific concerns raised about doing so provided the generator is securely mounted and the overall installation is properly supported. You may notice slightly more deflection when the tray is extended compared to a perfectly balanced load, but the tray is designed to support substantial weight even in the extended position.
As for using the tray in a mobile commercial application, there were no concerns raised about leaving the equipment mounted during vehicle operation. The key is making sure the generator is securely mounted and unable to shift while traveling.
For installation in your Ford Transit, I would strongly recommend using substantial backing plates or reinforcement underneath the van floor to spread the load over a larger area. The tray itself is capable of handling the weight, but the vehicle floor needs to be able to support those loads as well, especially with a permanent installation.
I also asked about previous applications involving generators, compressors, welders, and similar equipment. Unfortunately, I was not able to get any specific examples of customer installations, so I cannot speak to particular setups that may be similar to yours. But I did attach a picture of a MORryde tray carrying a whole lot of tools, I would say his weight is not distributed evenly, but it is still holding up just fine!
Overall, I think this tray is a solid choice for your project. Just be sure the floor is properly reinforced, the generator is securely mounted, and the load is distributed as evenly as possible across the tray.
Founder of Outta Energy, what exactly do you do? What exactly do you use the generator for?
