What Replacement Key Do I Need For A Thule Adventurer Cargo Box?

Updated 06/16/2026 | Published 06/13/2026

Question:

I have a Thule Adventurer car-top box with no keys. There is supposed to be a key number stamped on the lock, but its not there. The Serial Number is EG 168127 Can you tell from that what replacement key it needs?

Hey Tom, thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately, there is no way to use the serial number from your cargo box to know what key it uses. If you reach out directly to Thule, they might be able to tell you, but to my knowledge I don't think they save key code info under the serial number.

If I were you, I'd just go ahead and replace the locks. Provided the box is unlocked, you can use the Thule One-Key System Lock Cylinders # TH450200 to swap those out. This comes with the universal master key which lets you remove the old lock cores, then you get two new lock cores and keys to match.

Did you buy a used cargo box? Is it currently unlocked?

Thanks! I bought it used but fortunately it was unlocked. I just sold it on so I’ll pass this along to the buyer.

@TomW Ah darn that's tough because there really is no way to know exactly what key it uses and Thule makes a ton of different key codes. In these cases, the only thing you can do aside from having someone pick the lock would be to drill out the lock core till it falls out and then install new ones.
