Should I Add Roller Bunks To A Shorelander Trailer Carrying A 24 Yamaha FSH222?

Question:
I was thinking about putting rollers on my bunk trailer. I have a 24 Yamaha FSH222 with a Shoreland trailer with bunks. would this work that you guys sell? I know I gotta measure the bunks cause there’s like 62 by sixes on the bottom of that boat that make up the bunks not your typical one. Tie Down Roller Bunks for Boat Trailers

Hey Chris, thanks for reaching out. Honestly, I wouldn't go with roller bunks on that FSH222. You've got a pretty heavy fiberglass boat, and that ShoreLand'r trailer uses all those bunks for a reason, to spread the load out across a lot of hull surface area. Once you start replacing those long bunks with rollers, you're concentrating the weight into smaller contact points, and that's not really the direction I'd want to go on a boat like yours.
If your goal is easier launching and loading, I'd look at bunk slicks instead. Something like the Caliber Marine Slides for Boat Trailer Bunks # CA66AJ would work great for that. You keep all of the support the trailer was designed to provide, but the boat slides much easier on and off the trailer. It's a simpler setup, less expensive, and you don't have to worry about changing how the hull is supported. For a 22-foot Yamaha fishing boat, that's the route I'd take every time before converting the trailer over to roller bunks.
Do you usually launch on a lot of steep ramps?
