Hello Joseph,
I'd be happy to help you put together a flat tow setup for your 2003 Honda Odyssey. Below are the components you'll need to safely and legally tow it behind your motorhome.
For the base plates, I recommend the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit with Fixed Arms # BX2233. I've attached a photo so you can see what the installation looks like once completed. The attachment arms can be removed when you're not towing to give the front of the Odyssey a cleaner appearance. Installation does require some modification, including drilling into the vehicle's frame. The bumper, fascia, and grille will need to be temporarily removed, and some trimming of plastic components may be necessary depending on your specific model.
For the tow bar, the Blue Ox Alpha Non-Binding Tow Bar # BX7380 is an excellent choice. Its non-binding design makes connecting and disconnecting much easier, even if you're parked on uneven ground.
For lighting, I recommend the Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit # RM-15267. This kit allows your Odyssey's taillights to mirror the signals from your RV while being towed and includes the coiled electrical cord you'll need between the motorhome and vehicle.
For supplemental braking, the Blue Ox Patriot Portable Flat Tow Brake System # BLU37TR is a great option. Since you'll be using diode wiring, I also recommend adding the Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit # RM-88400. The relay prevents the Patriot from sending power back through the Odyssey's brake light circuit when the braking system activates, ensuring the lighting system functions correctly while towing.
I've also included our helpful article, "Must-Have Flat Towing Components." It's a great resource whether you're new to flat towing or just looking for a refresher before your next trip.
****Please make sure that you look in your owners manual on what procedures need to be done to the vehicle before flat towing, skipping any step can cause great harm to your transmission or other components.
What kind of RV will you be towing the Odyssey behind? Do you have any exciting trips planned once you get everything set up?
