Adding Second AC Unit To Garage Area Of 5th Wheel Toy Hauler That Is Already Pre-Wired

Published 05/12/2026

Question:

My toy hauler rv is already wired for a second AC in the garage area, but I don’t want to connect it to the front thermostat. I just want it to be its own zone with controls right there. What would work?

Good morning Briar, the Coleman-Mach # CM73RR would work well for that kind of separate garage AC setup if you want a complete ductless system. It includes the 15,000 Btu rooftop unit and the matching air distribution box, so it can be controlled right at the ceiling instead of tying into your front thermostat.

That makes it a clean option for toy hauler garages, bunk rooms, or other separate spaces. It fits a standard 14-1/4 inch x 14-1/4 inch roof opening and can use the Coleman-Mach heater kit # CM96RR if you want light electric heat later. Is that garage already framed and wired for the second AC, Briar?

One thing I'd make sure is that it just has the power wires to connect to this new unit. If it has thermostat wiring already then you won't want to use that since the new system uses it's own controls.
