Great question Zach, these are both solid choices.

Sliding ladder racks are great but they need to mount on top of the bed rails and have a clear track so they can move forward and backward. Most tonneau covers also mount to those same bed rails and add their own side rails or hardware. Because of that, they end up competing for the exact same space.

The reason why the TracRac system won't work is the tracks hang over the rails and overtime as you open and close the tonneau cover, it rubs against the rack and starts to tear up the cover. So we recommend the following as a solution:

I will mostly use this rig for construction. I will have to slide the rack back-and-forth quite often as I tow a gooseneck trailer. How easy does this track slide?

@ZachD The rack slides pretty easily when unloaded or lightly loaded, you can reposition it by loosening the mounting hardware and sliding it back or forward. With weight on it, it may take a bit more effort, so you may need to unload or relieve pressure first. Overall, it works well for setups where you need to reposition it for gooseneck towing.
