How To Use 20 lb Propane Tank With Motorhome Propane System

Updated 04/19/2026 | Published 04/13/2026

Question:

I want to be able to transfer propane from a 20lb tank into my motor home larger on board tank. Do you sell adapters that can do that?

Hey Mitch! You can’t safely transfer propane from a 20 lb tank into your motorhome tank, those systems aren’t designed for that. What you can do instead is use a tee that lets you run your RV off the 20 lb tank as the supply.

The MB Sturgis Sturgi-Stay T-Fitting # 103537-MBS installs between your tank and regulator, and gives you a hookup for a portable tank. This will allow you to switch over to the 20 lb tank so your RV will pull propane from that instead of the onboard tank.

What kind of motorhome do you have?

2018 Forest river forester 3051S The system says the tank is full. But when I open the vent next to the yellow fill Nothing comes out so I believe the tank is empty. Do you sell the sensor that clicks on bottom left

@MitchY we do not have that sensor. I would check with your local RV repair shop or propane supply store.

I installed mine (before the regulator!) for the purpose of feeding grills and fryers instead of carrying 20lb tanks around. But the bonus is, if I ever need to, or if i don't want to pull off of the main tank, just close the main tank valve and hook a 20lb or other size to one of the ports to "backfeed" the line but. Just remember that if you do pull off the tee (if it is before the regu;ator, your grill or such must have a regulator on it.

It’s a simple device. Sadly 1 of the 2 valve handles leaks.
