Hey Phil, thanks for reaching out. Yes, it can be used for a mattress platform, but only if the specs match what you’ve already got. The # 372-5300-30 is a 30 lb strut with about a 20" extended length and it attaches to a 10mm ball stud, so it’s in the right category for RV beds, compartments, and similar setups.
Where guys get tripped up is the force rating. 30 lbs is on the lighter side, and a lot of mattress platforms use stronger struts depending on the size and weight of the bed. So if your current ones are 30 lb rated and 20" long extended, you’re good. If they’re rated higher or your bed already feels heavy to lift, this one’s probably going to feel weak and not hold it up like it should. In that case you'll want to bump it up to something with a stronger rating.
Do you know the length and weight rating of the current struts? Or do you know the mattress weight?

I tried using this on my RV front door, sadly it did not work. There was nothing wrong with the strut, it is my RV. My RV door did not have the clearance between the threshold and the door for the strut to fit. When I closed the door the bottom of the door would hit the ball end or the ball end caps so the door would stay open. I could force it closed but I would rather not do that. I had to use a Marine strut which had the same 30lb force but was a lower profile and also chrome. The old strut was too worn out to see the make so I could not cross reference it. Even though this did not work for me eTrailer got me the part to try super-fast as always. Love eTrailer and their support team, the best in the business. Harold
