Hi Ron, I’m glad you reached out because this is one of those installs where getting a few details right really helps everything go smoothly and keeps your vehicle protected.
We don’t have a vehicle specific video for the 2025 RAV4 just yet installing part # C59235 but I did attach a video on a Toyota Sienna that follows the same style of universal powered converter install. It’s a great reference for understanding the overall process and where to look, especially when it comes to accessing the tail light wiring and routing your power wire.
On your RAV4, you’ll be working inside the rear cargo area behind the interior panels on both sides to access the tail light wiring. That’s where you’ll tap into the signals, mount the converter, and make your ground connection. The only wire that runs up to the front is that black power wire.
That black wire does need to be connected to the battery, even if you’re only pulling a small utility trailer. It powers the converter so your trailer lights work properly without putting strain on your vehicle’s wiring, which helps prevent electrical issues down the road.
You’ll want to use a circuit tester to confirm each function before making connections since wire colors can vary, but the process you see in the Sienna video will translate really well to your RAV4.
What will you be hauling in that small trailer, yard gear, bikes, or camping stuff?
