Hi Pam, great question, and you’re definitely on the right track wanting to add the wind sensor for a little extra peace of mind in gusty conditions.
Yes, the Solera Smart Arm Conversion Kit part # LC759405 with 69 inch arms is what you would need to upgrade your existing Solera 3000 15 foot awning so it can support the wind sensor feature. The Smart Arms have the built in control system that allows the awning to automatically retract when the wind sensor, part # LC715123, detects strong winds, which helps protect those arms from getting bent or damaged.
The wind sensor itself is a separate add on, and once installed, you can also expand the system with other compatible accessories like the infrared security sensor, part # LC715124, or an LED light kit like part # LC674282 if you want to build out a more complete setup.
As far as color goes, I did confirm with Lippert that the Smart Arm conversion kit with the programmable and wind sensor capability is only available in white right now. There is a black arm kit, part # LC434723, but that is a standard power awning arm setup and does not support the Smart Arm features or wind sensor integration, so it would not give you that same level of protection.
We would just want to confirm that your current arm length is 69 inches. To measure your awning arm length, you’ll want to measure from the center of the top mounting point down to the center of the bottom mounting point where the arm attaches to the RV wall. For the 69 inch version, that center to center measurement should come in right around 69 inches.
If it’s tough to see the exact center points because of the covers, just do your best to measure from the same relative spot at the top and bottom brackets and you’ll still get a reliable number. If you end up a little off, let me know what you’re seeing and I can help you confirm if it falls within the correct range.
Are you aiming for black to match your rig’s trim, or are you open to white if it means getting the wind protection built in?
