Suspension Enhancement for 2013 Ford F-350 Towing Dump Trailer/Skid Steer and Hauling In-Bed Camper

Updated 03/25/2026 | Published 03/22/2026

Question:

Hello, I have a 2013 f350 single rear wheel with the 69 bed. I am considering adding sumos springs or timbrens but am concerned about ride quality. I tow a dump trailer occasionally that is 5500 lbs unloaded and varies when loaded. I have a skid steer8,800lbs that I tow with the dump trailer. I have an in bed camper that is 1200lbs. With all of these considerations do you have a recommendation on which would be better? Thanks, Jason

Hey Jason, welcome back! Assuming your F-350 is 2WD the SumoSprings Solo # SSR-114-54 you looked at will be the best option. If you have a 4WD model you need # SS84VR instead.

These have enough capacity to handle your in-bed camper and keep you level while towing without overdoing it. Timbrens definitely have a tendency to make ride quality rougher since they have such a high capacity. If you liked the SumoSprings you had before in our Sierra 1500 you will be happy with these as well.

Where do you like to take your camper?

I added these to our single axel f350. We pull a 11,000# Jayco 5th wheel. It has a hitch weight of 2200# which was lowering the truck more than I liked. I added the Sumo's on the back and problem solved. When you drive empty, they don't make contact so the ride is the same. With the camper hitched up the ride is stiffer but very stable.
