Does Silverado Need To Be Re-Calibrated Or Re-Programmed After Installing PacBrake Air Bag Kit?

Updated 03/10/2026 | Published 03/05/2026

Question:

The technical document says the installation of the airbags will require “advanced driver assistance features”will need to be re-programmed ? When I look this up the definition it’s everything from my cameras to emergency braking , is that correct? Is this just a possibility but not necessarily the. Case?

Hey Martin, good question.

Pacbrake does indeed say to re-calibrate the advanced driver assistance system after installing the Pacbrake Alpha HD Air Bag Suspension Kit # PB69SV. This can be done at a GM dealer.

The reason they put this disclaimer there is because air bags can be aired up enough to increase rear ride height, which changes the angles for all those sensors. I haven't really heard of any issues if you don't do the re-calibration since it shouldn't affect factory ride height if you aren't aired up all the way without weight on the back, but I'd still recommend taking it into a dealer to verify if it needs to be done. They may tell you you're fine without having to pay for it!

What do you like to tow with this truck?

Thanks, Andrew. The only thing I noticed after they tested at 50 psi, with no trailer loaded, was that the driver assistance for following distance came on, and my GM provisional camera attached to my RV needed recalibrating. I was able to do both on my own. Thanks for the info. I will keep an eye on it in case anything looks like it would require a dealer visit. I'm generally towing a Forest River 25 travel trailer, just shy of 7000lbs with full load.

@Martin Oh wow that's awesome. What was the calibration process like just in case others have this issue? And that's a super nice rv; congrats!

@AndrewN Not much. I just reset the spacing between cars, then went back a page in the menu, and it's all done. The GM provisional cameras are notoriously finicky for calibration. They're working but still show an hour on occasion, while still displaying video correctly. Again, those cameras are provisional, and while they work with your surround view, they are sold separately from GM. They are very sensitive, since they will sometimes provide the invisible trailer view, which is when it wants to work, so that one was expected.
