Looking for Taller Kayak Carrier for Transporting Round Art Pieces

Updated 02/23/2026 | Published 02/12/2026

Question:

Hello, Im in need of a rack system that can help me move art pieces that are 9 1/2 feet long. They are shaped like cylinders, are roughly 50-60 lbs, and made of mesh and paper mache. I was interesting in the kayak rack roof systems, and was curious if you know of any rounded cradle arms that are much longer than what is shown. i am open to any and all suggestions. My vehicle is also a honda 2026 passport, and due to the size of my pieces, i have been looking into the longest possible roof racks that could hold my work. no-lo designs cleaver roof rack seems to be the best. However, if there are kayak systems that are able to be adjusted to hold/hug around larger objects, that would be equally as helpful. Thank you for your time.

Hey Louisa, that's definitely an interesting request! I believe our best option would be the LockRack part # LR54FR which has a slightly taller cradle arm at 17-1/2 inches and doesn't have the curled in top of the rack that the part # LR24VR has so I think it would hold your art pieces better. Do you have a roof rack for this carrier to attach to already? Will the pieces hold up in wind decently?

i'm in agreement with Jameson the expert. i have the rack with the curved arms. the straight arms as suggested would allow the tangent of the cylinder to contact the rack uprights in such a way as not to damage the artwork. may i also suggest the cam adjusting kayak tie down straps as well. they are of great quality and subtle. hope this helps. please post pics of loaded artwork!

I have the LockRack XL that I use on my mustang convertible. I absolutely love it! It’s a custom application to carry a 27 pound, 14 foot racing paddle board. I went with a T bone style hitch mount that helps with the loading thanks to the swivel feature. My rack arms are slightly bent at top, but they grab the 10-11” x 24”portion of my board great. If your pieces have a large diameter, the pro knows best, the straight arms are probably the best bet ?? I’m going to reach out to Jameson to try to attach a photo
