Hey Bruce, welcome back! The best hitch for your 2006 Jeep Commander, is the Curt item # 13414. This custom fit class III hitch has a 2" receiver and includes all hardware necessary to complete the installation. It has a 5,000 lbs towing capacity and a 500 lbs maximum tongue weight so it's going to work great for towing a small to medium sized trailer or hauling a bike rack or cargo carrier.
I really like the Curt Hitch item # 13414 because of how easy it is to install. All you'll need to do is hold the hitch up, insert the four bolts, and tighten them down.
