RV Toilet Replacement Recommendation for Replacing Rough In Dimension of 12 inch

Updated 03/04/2026 | Published 01/31/2026

Question:

We need to replace our RV toilet. I am curious about the minimum rough opening needed. A lot of items I have looked at show a minimum of 9 5/8. if the current toilet has a measurement from the wall to the center of the mounting bolts of approx. 12, would one of these be able to be used as a replacement? Should we look for one closer to the 12 measurement? Thanks.

Hey Daniel, since your current rough in dimension for your RV toilet is right at 12 inches you'd need a toilet that has a larger dimension there than what you've been looking at with like the Dometic part # DOM29FR which has a rough in dimension of 11 inches. This is a standard height toilet which most people prefer but is that the height you are looking for or are you wanting something shorter?

Hey Daniel, how did things go with finding a toilet that fits your 12-inch rough-in space? Did the standard height option end up working for your setup? Your update could make it easier for others replacing their RV toilets.
