Demco AutoSliding Hitch Jerking After 7k Miles

Updated 02/03/2026 | Published 01/23/2026

Question:

Purchased a 6077 hitch 10/8/2023, love it except for one thing. After making a normal turn then starting to straighten out, I get a pretty severe jerking from the hitch. So far 7000+ miles there appears to be no damage. Is there an adjustment for this?

Hey, Larry.

Sorry to hear what's going on with the Demco Autoslide part # DM6077. Have you applied any grease to the lower glide plates since you got the hitch back in 2023? If there isn't enough grease there it could cause it to not slide as smoothly thus causing the jerking you're feeling.

Every 5k miles you should be checking those plates and make sure that there is sufficient grease on them. I've included a snip from the instructions that goes over maintenance for the auto sliding part of the hitch.

Let me know if that helps and if not, I'll do some more research for you!

Thanks for the reply. I have kept the hitch greased at least 2 other times per the installation manual. I greased it again after your comment here, but haven't used it yet (next month). I also keep the bed of the truck covered with a trifold cover, which helps keep dirt/dust off it. I checked all the mounting hardware also, nothing wrong there. This hitch has had this issue from the begginning. Google searching shows that others have similar issue with their hitch.

@LarryC Let me know how it goes after next month. I know I have heard that if the head is rotating at an angle it can cause it to not be as smooth as if you are on a flat road. Which I feel like most times, especially when pulling into a camp ground, it's not going to be flat ground.
