How to Fix a Leaning Motorhome

Updated 01/21/2026 | Published 01/19/2026

Question:

Hi…..we have a Jayco Precept 34 G. 2022 with about 6000 miles. The design of this model puts extra weight on passenger side, from what we understand. The coach leans to right, even when unloaded due to long slide, kitchen, fridge, washer dryer on passenger side. Wanting to know if this suspension enhancement system can help with this weight balancing challenge. I’m convinced ride would be better as everything now is factory supplied. Looking for solution to both enhance the ride, but also tackle the weight distribution issue. Can you guide me? Thanks. Jeff

Hey Jeff,

Before adding anything, I recommend checking the current suspension to make sure everything is in good working condition. Usually when an unloaded coach is leaning, it's due to an issue with the suspension.

If everything appears to be in good shape, then I recommend getting SumoSprings. You'll need the SumoSprings Rebel Custom Helper Springs # SSF-170-40-2 for your front axle and SumoSprings Maxim Custom Helper Springs # SSR-180-54-1 for your rear axle. After install, they're good to go no running any tubes or monitoring air pressure.

Where are you off to next?

Hi, Josh…. Thank you for the response. Greatly appreciated! We had the oil changed today and based on just a visual inspection, Camping World guy indicated the “leaf spring” on the back passenger side is all the way compressed and suggested we get that checked out. If we do the Sumo Springs, will this alleviate that problem and level things out….assuming there is no issue with the chassis? Thanks again. Next trip is to Hilton Head, SC!

@JeffD if your leaf spring has flattened out (which is expected over time), then you'll want to replace those first. You always want to do them in pairs on the same axle so they wear out evenly. So, if your passenger side is worn, then you need to replace the leaf spring on the driver side of that same axle. SumoSprings will increase the longevity of your suspension system but should not be used to alleviate problems with an already-worn leaf spring. Was that the only leaf spring they noticed with any issues? I attached an article on how to accurately measure your leaf springs to see what size replacements are needed. I've yet to go to Hilton Head but I've heard great things! I have been to Savannah, GA right around there and it's a great place to avoid the cold.
