Updated 07/01/2014 | Published 06/28/2014

Question:

I have a BX7435 tow bar. Can you tell me if this model is discontinued? The vehicle we have this tow bar for was totalled out not while connected to the motorhome, but on its own We need to purchase new brackets for its replacement that will fit the BX7435. Currently looking for brackets to intall on the front of our 04 F250 super duty 4wd and possibly an 05 Scion XB. Thank you.

The Blue Ox Alexus tow bar has been discontinued for several years, but it would still be compatible with their currently available tow bar base plate kits. The tow bar has a 10,000 lb capacity, so it would work fine with either vehicle.

To flat tow either vehicle, you will need a tow bar, base plates, safety cables, a lighting solution so the lights on the two vehicle operate along with those of the tow vehicle and a supplementary braking system. Also, please keep in mind that some vehicles will require additional modifications like driveline disconnects, free wheeling hubs or transmission lube pumps in order to be flat towed safely.

For your 2004 F250, I'd recommend the # BX2608 base plate which is compatible unless your truck is the Harley-Davidson or the STX Edition. If your Alexus tow bar doesn't have the safety cables, I'd recommend # BX88196. Custer Wireless Magnetic Tow Lights, part # LIW-LDTL would be a good lighting option. The Delta Force, part # SM99242 would be an excellent supplemental braking system that would be compatible with either vehicle.

For the 2005 Scion xB, I'd recommend the # BX3753 base plate kit. The same safety cables, lighting option and braking system mentioned above would work.

I'll link you to some of our Flat Towing help articles.
