Streamlined Roof Box for 2025 Outback Wilderness With Factory Roof Rack and 36.75" Crossbar Spread

Updated 01/17/2026 | Published 01/15/2026

Question:

I have a 2025 Outback Wilderness. Unfortunately. I purchased it used and was not given the key to adjust my crossbars. Im looking for a cargo box that will fit my current setup since I am unable to move the crossbars. My crossbars are 2.75inch wide. Looking at the sideview of my car. The distance from inner-to-inner edge of crossbars is 34inch and outer edge to outer-to-outer edge is 39 . Front of crossbar to where hatch edge is 56inch I m looking for a 14 or higher CU Inch streamlined cargo box. Thanks

Hey Bill! Based on those measurements you have a crossbar spread of 36.75" so you will need a roof box that is able to accommodate that. The closest option is the Inno Box 2020 Rooftop Cargo Box # IN86FR. This fits a crossbar spread of 24" - 39" and has 14 cu ft of carrying capacity. It will also allow you to open the rear hatch without hitting the box.

If you're looking for something with a little more space and a sleeker design, the Yakima GrandTour Lo Rooftop Cargo Box # Y46FR you were looking at will also work. This has 15 cu ft of space, will fit your crossbar spread, and will allow you to open the rear hatch as well.

I haven't used the GrandTour Lo but I have used a lot of different roof box brands (including Inno) and Yakima is my favorite. While some others feel a little floppy and flimsy, and can be a pain to open/load, Yakima boxes are super solid and easy to deal with. They also look really good on any vehicle.

What will you be using the roof box for?

I will be traveling using it for various items, ex. bags, cloths, general stuff. I just wanted to clarify the crossbar distance since I cannot make adjustments. You mentioned a spread of 36.75 inches even though the outer edges of my crossbars measure 39 inches apart. Can you clarify how you got that measurement? Thanks Bill

@BillG crossbar spread is center to center. I went off your 34" inside measurement and then added 2.75" (half the width of each crossbar). It's that or 36.25" if I use your 39" and take off 2.75, something is a little off in there somewhere but both of the options above will work either way unless the crossbar width is inaccurate.
