Easy to Use/Lightweight Fifth Wheel Hitch Recommendation to Replace Curt A16

Updated 01/13/2026 | Published 01/12/2026

Question:

Currently have a Curt A16 fifth wheel hitch and looking to change it to either a Pullrite or Anderson hitch. I have heard about some failures on the Anderson and I am really not sure which one to purchase. Since I am connecting and disconnecting by myself either one will be easier for me, getting the ball close to the cup and easier on uneven ground. Looking for some guidance. Thanks

Hey Ron, for what you are looking for the Pullrite fifth wheel hitch part # PUL53RR is your best option. Its super easy to connect and disconnect from for a one man show like yourself and as far as hitches go its lightweight at only 84 lbs. This will be just what you're looking for coming from the Curt A16. What camper do you have?

We have a 2022 Grand Design Reflection 260RD. Really like the trailer and haven’t had a lot of problems.

@RonB Glad you like it! How do you like the Curt A16? Curt was really proud of that hitch when they released it a few years ago.

@JamesonC A16 hitch works really great and never had any issues of course I always did the regular maintenance. The only thing that I would say negative is that it is hard to connect to the king pin, you have to be accurate getting it in there

@RonB Makes sense! That's probably to do with how tight they tried to make the king pin to hitch clearance so that it is quieter.
