Is The Vinyl On The BAK Revolver X2 Hard Tonneau Cover Replaceable?

Updated 01/20/2026 | Published 12/19/2025

Question:

I have this cover purchased in 2019 for my F150 short bed pick up. I love it. It was easy to install and operate and I feel very secure. However, after moving to Texas in 2023 the vinyl started shrinking on the top so it doesn’t look great now and it leaks more. Is it possible to get a new cover to fit the existing rails? And do you have a cover that can resist the Texas sun?

Hello Maggie, thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately, BAK does not offer replacement vinyl skins for the Revolver X2, so it isn’t possible to re-cover the existing rails or aluminum slats. Once the vinyl starts shrinking or cracking from age and UV exposure, the only true fix is to replace the roll cover assembly itself. The replacement roll cover is not something we offer here. That is something BAK would have to provide.

That said, if exposure to the Texas sun is a concern, I recommend staying away from vinyl altogether. A hard folding cover like the BAKFlip MX4 # BAK48329 is going to hold up much better in the heat and intense UV conditions. The panels are aluminum, so you don't have to worry about vinyl shrinking and cracking. Another thing I like about this cover is the panels can fold up against the cab, so you can still get access to virtually the whole bed. It has seals and a drain system, so it does a great job keeping items dry inside the bed. Definitely a solid option for any climate. Plus it comes with a 5-year warranty.

Hi Maggie, did you end up switching to the BAKFlip MX4 for your F150 after the vinyl on your Revolver X2 started shrinking? Knowing how it’s holding up in the Texas sun could help others dealing with the same issue.

@JesseM I haven’t made the change yet. I am not crazy about a folding top. Or the retractable . We split our time between New Hampshire and Texas now so it will have to handle snow and ice as well as the sun. So still looking 8nto what is available. Maggie

@MaggieM That makes sense, especially splitting time between New Hampshire and Texas. That’s a tough combo with snow, ice, and heat all in the mix. I get the hesitation on both folding and retractable covers, each style has its tradeoffs in those conditions. Thanks for the update, and if you end up narrowing things down or want to talk through options that handle both extremes better, feel free to reach out.
