Question:

I would like to install your class III kit on my 2013 Taurus 3.5L fwd. the only thing I want to tow are two motorcycles in a 5 x 9 open cargo tailer with ramp. Empty the trailer weighs 1,240 lbs. the two motorcycles will weight roughly 900 lbs total. Will the Taurus and your hitch be able to pull this safely?

Expert Reply:

The Curt Class III trailer hitch # C13379 has a 4,000 pound gross trailer weight capacity and 400 pound tongue weight capacity so it can handle the loaded trailer with no problem. The limiting factor is going to be your 2013 Ford Taurus. According to the owners manual only certain models have a tow rating and the ones that do are limited to 1000 pounds gross trailer weight.

The following models have a 1000 pound capacity:
3.5L TiVCT front wheel drive or all wheel drive
2.0L GTDI front wheel drive

All other models are not permitted to tow a trailer.

In order to tow the 2,140 pound load you would need a different vehicle. Consult your owners manual to confirm, page 256.
