Can Putco Custom Wiring Harness # P529005 Be Modified To Work With 3rd Brake Light?
Updated 12/29/2025 | Published 12/04/2025 >
Question:
Im chasing a way to wire my 3rd brake light on my bed cap/ topper without having to use the provided wiring harness that needs to be run through the floor into the cabin of the truck. If I modified this harness is there any reason I couldnt use it for the same purpose? The 3rd brake light on my topper should be lower or comparable amp draw to a putco blade. Thankyou

Hey Nick, yeah you could modify the Putco Custom Wiring Harness # P529005 to feed a third brake light. The wiring is straightforward enough if you’re comfortable opening things up and making clean splices. I just can’t officially recommend it since any cutting or tapping into the harness would void the warranty. But if you’re handy with wiring and don’t mind doing a little custom work, then sure, it can be done.
Your truck is a 2019 or newer Chevy or GMC correct?
