What Safety Chain do I Need for My Wells Cargo 2012 MC122-7-TE, and How Do I Weld it On?

Question:

Hi, I am looking to replace hook and one chain thats rusted on my trailer Wells Cargo 2012 model MC122-7-TE. Would this match the trailer weight rating? Also I have noticed that the chain is welded via loop to the link on the frame. When this is replaced how the connection is made?

Hello Jerry,

Yes, the Buyers Products 3/8" x 22" Class 4 Trailer Safety Chain with Forged Eye Slip Hook # 337B03822SC is strong enough for your 2012 Wells Cargo MC122-7-TE trailer. That trailer has a 7,000 lb GVWR, and the # 337B03822SC chain is rated for a 10,000 lb maximum trailer weight. Using this chain with the one you already have on there will be more than enough!

To install the new chain, have a qualified welder attach a Safety Chain U-Loop for Trailer Hitch # 362ChainLoopU to the trailer frame where the old chain was mounted. The U-Loop is a heavy-duty weld-on bracket made for trailer safety chains. Just make sure you put the loop of the chain on before welding.

Do you use the trailer for work, or for fun?

Hey Jerry, how did the new safety chain and weld-on U-loop work out on your Wells Cargo trailer? Your feedback could really help others replacing rusted chains on similar setups.
