3 Bike Rack With Street Legal Light Kit For 2023 Subaru Outback With OEM 2" Hitch And 4 Way Plug

Published 11/17/2025

Question:

I’ve got a 2023 Subaru Outback with a factory 2-inch hitch and 4-way plug already installed. Will the Thule Epos 3-Bike Rack with Tail Lights TH34FR44SR plug right in, or do I need an adapter for the wiring?

Nice setup Hannah! You are all good to go.

The Epos 3 bike rack # TH34FR44SR comes pre-wired with a 4-way flat connector that powers the built-in LED running, brake, and turn lights. Since your Outback already has that plug and a 2" receiver, it’ll connect directly with no adapter and fit your hitch just fine. Just be sure the connection stays clean and secure, so the lights stay bright on the road. It's easy for moisture and debris to get into those electrical connections on vehicles, especially if they are not used very often (can always use some dielectric grease # 11755 to help keep the connection good).

What bikes are you planning to carry on the Epos?

Thanks Andrew! The 4-way plug on my Outback sits pretty far under the bumper. Do I need an extension cable to reach the plug on the rack?

@Hannah It's really that easy Hannah! And no, you won't need an extension. You can check the demo video I've attached, specifically at the 15:07 timestamp where it shows how much slack there is in the 4 way electrical cable. You won't need anything else!
