Can The Lock N Roll Bolt-On Coupler Be Welded On?

Updated 12/08/2025 | Published 11/14/2025

Question:

Can the Lock N Roll bolt on receiver be welded to an A frame trailer? I see theres another Lock N Roll without the bolt holes or paint thats made for welding, is there any reason not to just weld on the bolt on version instead seeing as its $50 cheaper?

Hey Nick, thanks for reaching out. If you’re thinking about welding the bolt-on Lock N Roll coupler onto your A-frame, I’d skip that idea. That version’s meant to be bolted, not welded. It’s painted and has pre-drilled holes, which makes it a bad candidate for welding. You’d have to grind all the paint off anywhere you plan to weld, and those holes can create weak spots where the heat can cause warping or cracking. It just isn’t how the part was designed or tested.

If you want to weld, grab the weld-on A-frame version Lock N Roll part # 336TS504. It comes unpainted and is made for exactly that - a clean, solid weld to your 50-degree A-frame. The bolt-on might be fifty bucks cheaper, but it’s not worth the headache or risk of a bad weld down the road.

Hey Nick, how did things go with the weld-on Lock N Roll coupler for your A-frame trailer? Did it give you the solid weld and fit you were looking for? Your update could make it easier for the next person deciding between the weld-on and bolt-on versions.
