Can I Use 2 50W ZeroStart Heater Pads To Keep 2 Small Batteries Warm In Polaris Ranger UTV?

Updated 11/13/2025 | Published 11/04/2025

Question:

Would two 50-watt Zerostart pads work for a pair of small batteries in my Polaris Ranger UTV? Winter kills my batteries pretty much every year. It's annoying.

Yes Ron, that’s a solid plan. Two # ZE77FR pads will keep both batteries warm without drawing much power - only 50 watts each. Wrap them individually so the heat’s even, and you’ll avoid sluggish starts in snow season.

Do you park your Ranger inside or outside overnight? And out of curiosity, what is the second battery used for? A stereo or sprayer or something?

Thanks, Andrew. I park the Ranger in a carport, so it gets cold but not totally exposed. The second battery runs my light bar and a small winch.

@RonL That setup makes perfect sense, Ron; having those accessories on a second battery is smart for keeping your starting circuit isolated. With the # ZE77FR pads, you’ll have no trouble keeping both warm, charged, and ready to go. Since it’s under a carport, you’ll get even better results than if it sat out in the open. Do you use a battery maintainer too, or just rely on the Ranger’s alternator between runs? I wasn't sure if both batteries were connected to the alternator or just the main one.
