Parts Needed to Flat Tow 1974 Volkswagen Beetle With Ready Brute Tow Bar

I have a heavy brute tow bar set up with a 2014 mini cooper and I would like to set it up with my 74 vw beetle. Con you provide a kit to do so? This is not a super beetle. Thanks.

Hi David; I can provide you with the parts you need to set up your 1974 VW Beetle for flat towing. However, it will be up to you to find an adapter so the Ready Brute can connect to the base plate kit (Roadmaster is the only one available).
From what I have heard if you call NSA they will be able to make a custom adapter for you but I would verify this information before purchasing the rest of the parts. I would also ask them if they have run into any issues with their tow bar on a Roadmaster crossbar style base plate. If this isn't possible, you will need a new tow bar like the etrailer SD Non-Binding Tow Bar for Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plates # e44ZR.
It is also important to note that for the base plate kit to fit you need MacPherson struts. I recommend the following:
-Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plate Kit - Fixed Arms # 1214-2
-Replacement Quick Disconnect Crossbar Assembly for Roadmaster Tow Bars # 910021-00 (connects to Roadmaster Tow Bars, this is what you have to adapt to)
-Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-15267
-Curt RVi Series Shadow 2 Flat Tow Brake System # RVI94FR
-Curt RVi Series Towed Battery Charger+ for Flat Towing # RVI74FR
If you're able to use the Ready Brute you already have your brake system so you won't need to add a new one. If you can't find a way to adapt it to the base plate kit and use a different tow bar a new brake system will be required. If you decide to completely drop the Ready Brute and switch tow bars for both vehicles you could also get a portable brake system like the Curt RVi Series 4 Portable Flat Tow Brake System # RVI44FR which you can move back and forth between your vehicles.
