Is this a softer/ grippier rubber compound than the harder plastic material that comes with the Yakima HD bars?

Hey Jack, the Replacement Infill for Yakima HD Crossbars # Y01166 that you referenced is an exact replacement for what came on the Yakima HD bars. If you were looking for a different compound this would not work for that.
