Can My Truck With Standard Battery Power Meyer Salt Spreader? Which Model?
Published 10/09/2025 >
Question:
My truck doesn’t have much extra electrical capacity, I'm just running off 1 battery and not 2 like some diesels or snow trucks. Will the Base Line 240 draw less power than a Blaster spreader?

Yes, Alan - the Base Line 240 # ME86FR runs a single 12-volt motor and draws less current overall than the dual-circuit Blaster systems. It doesn’t power a vibrator, so it’s lighter on your alternator and battery. As long as your truck has a healthy 60-amp alternator and 70-amp battery, you’re good to go (per Meyer).
What type of truck is this going on? I have an older Nissan Titan with a standard 12v battery and I would throw the Base Line on without hesitation; wouldn't need to upgrade anything.
Now if you were also adding a snow plow that runs off an electric winch or motor, then you may have a case where you need to make some upgrades to the electrical system.
