Does 23x47 Carpod Walled Cargo Carrier w/ Lid # M2205-2201 Have Capacity for 55 lb Scooters

Updated 11/03/2025 | Published 09/30/2025

Question:

Is the bottom of a M2205-2201 strong enough to hold two 55 pound electric scooters? My concern is that the weight would be essentially concentrated on the contact patch of the four tires of the scooters. Also, if I were to stack anything on the scooters the weight would be even higher. My thinking is it may be necessary to bed the carrier with plywood or something similar to distribute the weight.

Hey Eric, the floor of the 23x47 Carpod Walled Cargo Carrier w/ Lid # M2205-2201 that you referenced is definitely strong enough for the electric scooters you mentioned. The carrier has a 450 lb weight capacity which was not specified as an "evenly distributed 450 lbs" so it would be totally fine. If this were an issue we would have for sure seen it already as well.

Hey Eric, how did things go with the Carpod cargo carrier when you loaded your two electric scooters? It’d be great to hear if the floor held up as expected under that concentrated weight. Your experience could help others carrying heavier items like that.

@JamesonC We have not purchased one, yet. At some point we are going to need to expand the storage capacity of our class C motorhome, and I was looking the 23x47 Carpod Walled Cargo Carrier w/ Lid # M2205-2201as a way to get more storage capacity for items that do not need to be hauled in the interior. Have you thought of designing a Carpod that has removable partitions that can be inserted into various vertical positions like oven racks? This would certainly enhance versatility for people that have smaller items they want to transport, but cannot be stacked on each other. It would be nice if partitions were independently purchasable.

@EricS That's a really interesting idea. I can't say we've thought of that or have seen much demand for something like that but I could see it being a helpful solution for some.
