Can I Install Parking Sensors Above The Bumper Of Delivery Van?

Question:
Can I mount these higher up on the rear of a delivery van, above the bumper? – Rosa

Expert Reply:
Rosa, you can, but they’re calibrated for low mounting on a horizontal plane, parallel to the road, for best detection of low obstacles. I wouldn't recommend it, but if you were to install above the bumper, you may miss out on detecting common obstacles like curbs and animals that are lower down.
I see you were looking at the Passenger Vehicle Parking Sensor Kit # BM28YR which installs flush in the bumper. For a delivery van, I think you'd be better suited by the Commercial Vehicle Parking Sensor Kit # BM39FR which allows for more of a universal install where the sensors go under a bumper or body lip.
What do you think is best for your vehicle? If you can tell me the exact model, I can help narrow down the install for you. The commercial kit is also easier and quicker to install.
