Recommended Brake Controller and Wiring for a 2015 Nissan Frontier w/out a Brake Controller Plug

Updated 08/15/2025 | Published 07/16/2025

Question:

I’m looking at your trailer brake kits for my Nissan Frontier 2015 SL. After checking under the dash for the loose trailer brake plug-in, normally hanging loose under the steering wheel, I found the previous owner had a trailer brake unit installed. Before I bought it, they had cut the plug off the harness. Is there a plug available to solder back in place to connect your system to?

Hey Gerald. I don't have a replacement plug but I have an easier, and less expensive way for you to install a brake controller in your 2015 Nissan Frontier. Since all the wires you need are right there you can install the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller item # RED24FR you were looking at, with the Universal Wiring Harness item # RED69FR.

The item # RED69FR is the harness used to install the item # RED24FR brake controller in a vehicle that does not have the plug and play port. Typically you have to hunt down the wires but yours should be pretty easy to identify and connect using butt connectors like item # DW05744-10.

Did the previous owner leave the relays and 7-way connector?

Hey Gerald, did you get a chance to try installing the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller with the Universal Wiring Harness? I'm curious to know how it worked out for you since it might help others in a similar situation.
