Self Centering Keel Roller for Tracker Trailstar Boat Trailer

Updated 09/02/2025 | Published 06/29/2025

Question:

Hello. I have a 2005 Tracker PT185 modified V-hull w/ stock Tracker trailer and stock 90hp Mercury outboard 2-stroke, 3 cylinder. Total wet weight of boat and motor is around 1,500 lbs. I would like to know if you have any suggestions for a self-centering keel roller for my trailer. When the boat is trailered, there is no cross beam under the keel. Attached are photos showing where I could potentially install a keel roller, but Im limited to about 11.5 inches for the width of the roller bracket, and the bracket u-bolt holes would have to be under 10 inches apart. I was thinking I could cut a bit off each end of this roller on a band saw, use CE10727A for the shaft with some washers to account for the shorter roller length, and use CE10500G for the brackets. However, I doubt the bracket could be raised high enough that the roller would contact the keel. Im having a tough time getting my bow eye centered when loading on the trailer, especially when by myself. Ive read great reviews for these types of keel rollers, but cant come up with a solution given my trailer configuration. I already have your CE Smith guide posts which help. Thanks for your time and assistance! - Stephen

Hi Stephen; the CE Smith Keel Roller # CES94JR, Roller Shaft # CE10727A, and bracket # CE10500G will all work together in the way you described. Since there is only a slight difference in the length it won't hurt to cut it down. However, I do agree that it won't sit high enough to reach the boat and make an impact in that position. Unless you want to add a few crossbeams to mount self-centering rollers I don't think this will be the best solution.

Take a look at the Ark Ezi-Guides Self-Aligning Boat Trailer Loading System # AR74FR. This mounts at the rear and will guide your boat to the center of the trailer when loading. I think this will be the best way to keep it centered with that trailer configuration and a lack of mounting points for other guides/rollers.

Hi Stephen, did you have a chance to try the Ark Ezi-Guides Self-Aligning Boat Trailer Loading System to help center your boat on the trailer? I'm curious to know if it worked for you, as it might be a great solution for others facing similar challenges.
