Is Reese Elite Series Under-Bed Hitch Compatible With Gen-Y and Shocker Gooseneck Pin Box

Updated 09/03/2025 | Published 06/24/2025

Question:

Can I use a GenY or Shocker 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box Conversion with the Reese underbed puck system RP30158-68? Ive seen some restrictions with other gooseneck balls and adapter systems related to force and want to make sure this Reese ball setup can handle the force of a 3inch offset coupler on a Shocker.

Hey Nick! Yes, the Elite Series Under-Bed Gooseneck Complete Hitch # RP30158-68 for your 2018 Sierra 2500 is compatible with the Gen-Y and Shocker Hitch pin boxes. There are no restrictions on their use with this hitch/setup. If you don't already have one, the correct replacement pin box will depend on your current pin box bolt pattern. If you can let me know the S/N off of the sticker I would be happy to help you find the right replacement.

Hey Nick, did you have a chance to check the S/N on your current pin box to find the right replacement? If you're still looking for a solution, I'm happy to help.

Hello Robin, thanks for the follow up. I believe the serial number of my Lippert Pin Box is 2021027314, so if that sounds like a correct identifier I would be interested in the appropriate Gen-Y. I do have concerns about turning clearance, do you have any data that might indicate if the 3"(?) offset of the Gen-Y is enough? 2018 Sierra 2500 short bed towing a 2022 Volante 310BH.

@Nick that is the item number for the chassis which can't be used to identify it. Is there a sticker on the pin box? If you can send me a picture of the sticker, or give me the number next to S/N, or the RPO number I can find out which one is the right fit. For clearance you can use the following formula: (A + B) - C = Clearance A = Distance from the gooseneck ball center to the truck cab B = Offset used (use 0 for now) C = Width of the nose of the trailer divided by 2 If it is a negative number you're going to be making contact on tight turns. Worst case scenario you can test everything out before you take the trailer anywhere so you know your clearance limitations when turning.
