Does 7-Way of 2006 Chevy Silverado 1500 Have Separate Brake Light from Turn Signals

Updated 09/02/2025 | Published 06/19/2025

Question:

I have a 2006 chevy silverado 1500. It has the factory 7 way plug and a single blue wire for brake light signal as the turn and brake lights are separate. How does the 7 way plug work and light up brake lights if it only has running lights and turn signals but no brake light signal in it? And my terminals are getting pretty corroded what would you recommend to replace the factory 7 way? Do they make a 7 way that has an extra wire/plug for the single brake signal plug to plug into? Thank you

Hey Justin, your 2006 Chevy Silverado 1500 would have it's trailer wiring setup the standard way which has the stoplights and turn signals on the same wire. What you have found instead sounds like the brake output circuit for a brake controller or maybe a third brake light circuit for a camper shell brake light if there's a dedicated stoplight circuit.

The part # 30955 that you referenced otherwise would plug right into the 7-way connector you have now and would work great with all new, clean terminals.

Hey Justin, did the new 7-way connector work out for your Silverado? I'm asking because your experience could help others dealing with similar wiring issues.
