Solution for Roadmaster Stowmaster 5000 Tow Bar with Stuck Inner/Outer Arms

Updated 09/02/2025 | Published 06/19/2025

Question:

I received the repair kit for my Stowmaster 5000. This tow bar was given to me as the sliding arms are frozen. I soaked them with a degreaser and cleaner, drilled out the rivits and removed the safety bolts and nuts. Appartently, it is so gummed up, the only way to get the sliding arms to move while holding theAutowlok button down, is to smack it with a dead blow hammer. This is painstakenly slow. Do you have any tips on how to remove the sliding arms? Can I apply heat to remove the bushings? Any suggestions would help. thank you.

Hey Robert, based on what you've tried they arms are in pretty bad shape and it would be best to replace them with the part # RM910016-00 for the driver side and part # RM910015-00 for the passenger side. How old is the tow bar?

Hey Robert, did you end up replacing the sliding arms on your Stowmaster 5000? I'm curious to know if that solved the issue, as it could help others facing the same problem.
