Is There A Way To Speed Up The Charging On The Progressive Dynamics Component?

Updated 06/20/2025 | Published 06/10/2025

Question:

I recently upgraded to a lithium battery for my camper and bought the a Progressive Dynamics component for my WFCO Converter. It works but the charging is extremely slow. Is there a more efficient way to charge the battery? Thanks, Sean

Hey Sean,

The Progressive Dynamics component you had previously purchased has an automatic multistage charging feature that switches charge modes based on what is best for your battery. It focuses on keeping your battery lasting longer. Since it has this feature there is not a way to speed up the charging. I looked at the manual and there is a way to override that and pick the charging method but they state throughout that it is not recommended to do so. The "boost" mode is the mode on the component that charges the quickest and usually only kicks in if the batteries drop way below 50%.

Another way you may potentially increase the speed is by using a larger generator or shore power supply. What kind of camper do you have this component on?

Hi Nick, Sorry for the delay. We have an 18 foot forest river Wolf pup black label trailer. The battery is an epoch 460 AH. I also installed a Renogy 2000 watt inverter and a Orion battery to battery charger for use while towing. The generator is a Westinghouse 5000 watt peak. It pretty much does exactly as you described. It works but was hoping to use the generator less. I can go 3-4 days without the generator; Then I need it daily to maintain. Maybe the next step would be solar?

@SeanM Solar could be a good next step. That is a system that just constantly charges your batteries. The only real downside is the fact that it would need that direct sunlight. I know in the summer months it may heat up your trailer more than you want it to. You may try some portable panels which you allow you to hook them up and set them up away from the trailer in the sun so you still have the comfort of a nice spot. Something like # 34282610 is a solid portable system.
