Are The Grease Zerks On The Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch A Standard Size?

Updated 06/09/2025 | Published 06/04/2025

Question:

I bought a Curt A-16 fifth wheel hitch from you last fall. Had a technical question on the grease zerks. I assume they are standard size fitting? Is the only way to access them is when this hitch is hooked up and loaded. A bit awkward to reach if that is the only way set at them! Appreciate any clarification I can get! Thanks!

Hello Bill, thanks for reaching out. Yes, the grease zerks on the Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch like part # C42VJ are a standard size. So you can use any standard grease gun for that. Multi purpose lithium grease is recommended.

You are 100% correct the grease zerks are tricky to access. No good way around this im afraid. Using a grease gun with a flexible hose like part # L30416 can make that easier. Or find a friend who has really small hands haha.

Just to confirm, need to hook up to the fifth wheel trailer to access. Thanks.

@BillG The jaw does need to be in the closed position for the zerks to be accessible. Don't necessarily need to hook up the camper to do this but it does need to be closed.

@JesseM If I close the jaws, is it there an easy way to open without a pin in place. It’s seems I accidentally closed the jaws and it was a challenge to open ? Thanks for any advice it would be much easier that way. Thanks!

@BillG You should be able to pull back on the handle to open the jaw. It might help to put like a metal bar or something (not your hand) inside the jaw to help push it open. The jaws and handles on the Curt hitches are notorious for being "sticky" and hard to work with. I have experienced similar issues with quite literally every other Curt 5th wheel hitch I have had my hands on.
