Waterproof Cargo Bag that Fits Yakima LoadWarrior Cargo Basket

Updated 08/18/2025 | Published 06/04/2025

Question:

I have a Yakima Load Warrior on my RV. I also have the Yakima mid-sized cargo net so I can secure the contents with the bungees. As per your website, the internal dimensions are 39 inches long X 37 inches wide. I am looking for a waterproof cargo bag that will fit within these measurements. Can you recommend any? Thanks, Chuck

Hey Charles, for a waterproof bag that closest matches the dimensions you are looking for we have the CargoSmart Rooftop Cargo Bag # CS64FR which measures 40" long x 38" wide x 16" tall. This has 15 cubic feet of storage space as well. How do you like the LoadWarrior?

Thanks for the recommendation. I like my Load Warrior very much. I have the cargo net as well. There are less expensive racks out there, but I've had experiences with Yakima and Thule products, so I stuck with the Yakima this time. I do have some follow-up questions about the Cargo Smart and possibly the Rightline RL100S20. First of all, would the Rightline also work for me? From watching the video, it seems to be a more involved installation and attachment procedure vs the CargoSmart. I would be installing the bag on top of a campervan (RAM Promaster chassis). I can only access and fill the bag via a ladder on the back of the van. Concerning this, can these bags be filled and zippered from the rear of the bag (i.e. are the bags double zippered that meet in the back of the bag, and do these bags open fully front to back vs only side to side?). Can these bags be left on the roof rack for the duration of the camping trip, without taking them down and putting them back up? In other words, can I attach the empty bag to the rack, fill the bag with gear, unload the gear at my campsite, and later drive the van with the empty (but well secured) bag still attached? Thanks, Chuck

@CharlesD The Rightline part # RL100S20 is a waterproof option that would work as well. Both of these are double zippered backs that open from the back like you asked about. There's really no reason you'd have to take the bags off when empty like you asked about as well. I attached review videos for both bags for you to check out as well.

@JamesonC On your recommendation, I purchased the CargoSmart Rooftop Cargo Bag #CS64FR. I opened it and am using it for the first time. On the enclosed installation instructions, it states "THIS PRODUCT IS NOT WATERPROOF." Your product description states that it is - "CargoSmart Rooftop Cargo Bag - Waterproof - 15 cu ft, Part Number: CS64FR". Have you had any feedback from purchasers that items were getting wet during heavy rains? Thanks, Chuck.

@CharlesL I would agree that's misleading. What the difference is that when on the roof of a vehicle it's "waterproof" meaning rain won't get it but lets say you threw the bag in a river...it would let that water in. So when used properly rain/water won't get it since it's rated for IPX5 but it's technically not waterproof as that means it would need to be able to be submerged.
