Question:

I have a 2021 Encore GX. I plan to tow Kayaks with a dual trailer which I have yet to buy. Per car manual I can tow up to 1000lbs with tongue Wt 100lbs. Which hitch and harness should I purchase? Some trailers have a 2 ball and some smaller.

Hi D; for a hitch I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # DT55GR. This is a Class III hitch with a 2" receiver which will give you the most options for ball mounts and other accessories. Even though the hitch is rated for 3,500 lbs you will still be limited to the 1,000/100 lbs of towing/tongue weight of your vehicle.

For wiring, it all depends on your tail lights. If they're LED you need # C37UR and if they're incandescent # TK58FR. Both will provide you with a 4-way to power your trailer's signal lights. For a ball mount, check out the etrailer Ball Mount Kit # 989900. This comes with both a 1-7/8" and 2" ball so you're covered no matter what kayak trailer you end up with. If you decide to pick up the Malone MicroSportXT # MPG460XT you were looking at you would need the 2" ball.
